Interview by IAA INDUSTRY NEWS
What is your music background?
RAYVAUGHN: I have been singing since the age of 5. I started out singing in the church choir. I used to sing with the Mississippi Mass Choir. I was in choir in both middle school and high school. I received a full choir scholarship to Mississippi Valley State University by singing for the choir director over the phone. I was part of the concert, gospel, acapella, and classical choirs. I know how to read and teach music. I can play the drums, play notes, keys, and a few songs on the piano. I currently sing R&B and Pop Music but I have a love and respect for all genres.
Why do you want to record and release your own music?
RAYVAUGHN: I feel that I have been blessed with a gift. I’ve known since I was a little boy that this was my dream. There was a time doctors told my parents I wouldn’t be able to speak so with that past knowledge in mind, it became a joy watching the happiness on people’s faces when I would sing in church, talent shows or plays. My life’s journey is composed of several songs and albums in itself. I have a story I think people would enjoy hearing.
What are your songs about?
RAYVAUGHN: R&B is about emotion. It can be about love, happiness, sadness, loneliness, or any other emotion you may have. I have songs describing my personality. I have songs about heartbreaks. I have songs about break-ups and make-ups. On the other hand, I have party songs and dance songs as well. I try to create music that relates not only to my current situations, but also to the stories and situations I hear from my family members and friends about work, or something we saw on the news, etc. I use my surroundings to inspire me.
Who are your musical influences?
RAYVAUGHN: I definitely admire the legends and draw influence from Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and R. Kelly. I also look up to current artists such as Beyonce, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Usher, Miguel, and Luke James.
